For the Ones Who Couldn’t Make That Call Today
Happy Mother’s Day.
It’s another year and another celebration of Mother’s Day; well, Mothering Sunday. A day that, for many people, comes with warm phone calls, long messages, flowers, and hugs. A day when timelines are filled with pictures and tributes to the women who brought us into the world.
But today, I found myself remembering the people for whom this day feels different.
The ones who cannot pick up their phones to say “Happy Mother’s Day.”
The ones who cannot walk into a room and find their mother sitting there.
The ones who would give anything for one more hug, one more conversation, one more ordinary day.
I might not fully understand what that feels like. I cannot pretend to know the depth of that kind of absence. But today, I found myself pausing to pray for you.
I asked God to give you a kind of peace that sits gently with your heart. The kind that doesn’t rush your healing or dismiss your memories, but quietly holds you through them. I asked that He gives you joy in unexpected places, small moments that remind you that love, once given, does not disappear.
Days like this can carry many emotions at once. Gratitude for the memories you had. Longing for the moments you wish you could still have. Sometimes even a quiet heaviness that words cannot fully explain.
And that’s okay.
Grief has a way of reminding us how deeply we have loved. And love like that does not vanish simply because someone is no longer here in the way we wish they were. It continues in the stories you tell, in the lessons they left behind, and in the parts of them that live on in you.
So today, if Mother’s Day feels a little heavier for you, I hope you allow yourself to feel whatever comes without pressure or expectation. I hope the good memories find their way to the surface and bring you warmth. I hope you are surrounded by kindness, even in quiet ways.
And more than anything, I hope you remember this: you are not alone and you are loved.
Somewhere, someone is thinking about you today. Someone is praying for you. And someone hopes that peace finds you right where you are. ❤️
This piece is specially dedicated to my dear friends; Fiyinfoluwa, Eyeowa.E, A.Dorcas, Immanuel and to everyone in this position.🥹💕
